Our node is actively involved in a number of CTN committees and workgroups, participating in conference calls, e-mail discussions, and face-to-face meetings. Several Pacific Northwest Node members hold leadership positions on these committees. Committee structure is expected to change in the later part of 2005 as the CTN undergoes some restructuring; information shown here is current for now, and will be updated when the new structure is in place.
Pacific Northwest Node members participate in all three national coordinating committees:
- The Research Portfolio Coordinating Committee is charged with the development of consistent, objective criteria by which proposed concepts are chosen for further development into research protocols in such a way as to assure appropriate balance across a number of important dimensions within the overall portfolio of clinical trials and adequate coverage of topics important to clinicians and clinical researchers.
- The Operations Coordinating Committee is involved with the implementation process, after a protocol gets final approval. This committee looks at issues having to do with the implementation of the protocols in the field.
- The External Affairs Coordinating Committee will disseminate findings and techniques learned from completed research to the real world treatment community and to the public at large, ultimately "bridging the gap" between research and practice.
