- What's the difference between DirectData and WebData? (answer)
A: DirectData is used by treatment providers. Generally, these providers have common data collection and reporting needs which can
be served with our standard assessment tools. WebData is used by researchers who require custom tools for more complex data
collection and reporting.
- Can DirectData help me develop a treatment plan for each client? (answer)
A: Yes, by using the scales available through DirectData, you can more efficiently collect and analyze patient data which allows you to spend
more time planning client treatment. In addition, future versions of DirectData will better automate the treatment planning
process and provide a one-stop solution for managing each patient from intake and referral, treatment planning, attendance and
performance through treatment, discharge, and outcomes assessment across those time points at the patient-, agency-, and modality-level.
- What assessment instruments are available? (answer)
A: The SDS Instrument Library includes over 140 different assessment instruments for substance abuse and mental health treatment.
- Can I use DirectData to collect data using the Addiction Severity Index? (answer)
A: Yes. The ASI is just one of over 140 instruments we offer.
- What kind of reports can DirectData produce? (answer)
A: Every instrument includes standard reports which can be modified for your agency. For patient files, narrative format and
question-answer formats are available. Tabular and graphical formats showing aggregate data are ideal for monitoring agency performance
or benchmarking individual data against agency norms.
- Is there a limit to the number of clients I can serve using DirectData? (answer)
A: No. Your subscription is a fixed monthly fee and is not based on the number of clients you serve. Your cost-per-patient
declines as the number of clients you serve each month increases. The time your staff saves aggregating data and producing reports
can be better spent serving additional clients.
- Is DirectData HIPAA compliant? (answer)
A: Yes. Both DirectData and WebData are HIPAA compliant. For more information, see our Security Standards section.
- How long does it take to get started with DirectData? (answer)
A: Once you've made a decision, getting started with DirectData is a simple process which can be completed in less than a week.
- Who can view my client data? (answer)
A: Access to your client data on the SDS servers is strictly protected with passwords used to customize access privileges based on your agency
operations and to maintain HIPAA compliance.
- Can I sign up for DirectData directly over the web? (answer)
A: We do not currently offer online registration. However, you may send us a signed express license to get started. Of course, if you
have any questions you can contact us via email.
- Is it risky to transfer my client data over the web? (answer)
A: Your data is transmitted to the SDS servers using a web-based file transfer system that is secured with Secured Socket Layers (SSL).
This is the same technology that is commonly used for transferring credit card and other sensitive financial information.
- Why can't I just use an online survey tool like SurveyMonkey or Zoomerang to build my own online instruments? (answer)
A:
· These tools are not HIPAA compliant and require time and effort to build and maintain.
· Only one user at a time is allowed access to the data entry screens.
· Report options are limited and cannot be customized.
- Why can't I use a database program like Microsoft Access? (answer)
A: Complex programs like Access can be used to solve database needs but often require the skills of an expert to
build the database system. Although this task can be outsourced, it should still be done by a programmer with
experience managing data for health care or substance abuse -- and even then you run the risk that your expert
is not available for future modifications and technical assistance. It is also extremely difficult to construct these
home-grown applications to be HIPAA compliant.
- What are the advantages of using a web-based software application? (answer)
A:
· No need to upgrade software -- upgrades are made automatically by SDS.
· No overhead IT costs to install and operate the software.
· Network access to your scales and data.
· Easily scalable as your needs change.
- How do I get help? (answer)
A: Our online training and help system will answer many of the questions you have. Technical support is available via email
and, depending on the complexity of the issue, we can respond by email or phone.
- Can I import my existing client data and link it to my new data? (answer)
A: Yes. We will work with you to import your existing data to create a single source of data which can provide you with a powerful
tool to analyze past and present agency performance.
- Can I export data from Sound Data Source products? (answer)
A: Yes. Your data can be exported and supplied to you in a variety of formats, including: SAS, SPSS, Access, and Excel, as well as
delimited or fixed-length text files.
- What happens if my data needs change? (answer)
A: Additional scales can be licensed to your agency for the cost of the initiation fee. Since the monthly subscription includes
access for each user to all of your licensed scales, any new scales you add do not increase your monthly expenses unless you also
add new users.
